Who the Regency IsOften called the Inheritors of the West, the Andromeda Regency is one of the largest and most successful of the meta-empires. While it doesn't stand out in any one particular area - it doesn't have the strongest economy, it doesn't have the largest military, and it isn't the most powerful diplomatically - it is consistently in second place, which ironically lands it in the top two meta-empires, usually ahead of or just behind the Verge Consortium. It is also the most influential meta-empire in terms of overall culture; the hegemonic media presence of the Regency - particularly its capital planet, Bluefall - gives it social capital and soft power that most polities could only dream of, with incredibly reach - even the most far-flung places in the Verge and Bleed are vaguely familiar with Bluefall. The Regency earns its name from the fact that the Andromeda Council, the body that acts as an "executive branch" for the Regency, was originally overseen by a king (the King of Bluefall, in fact) but following him being overthrown, a Regent assumed the role, leading to the name: the Regency of Bluefall, and the Andromeda Regency as a whole.
Regency IdealsThe Regency is in many ways the archetypical meta-empire. It is bound together by a core cultural group that gradually influences the surrounding cultures, and is tied to one of the Great Fleets that left Earth. This gives it unity, cohesiveness, and a shared identity that is actually not all that common among meta-empires; only Nariac and the Imperium have similar levels of shared identity and cohesiveness to match the Regency. At the same time, the Regency is not as solid as Nariac and the Imperium; its general structure puts it somewhere between a federation and a confederacy, leaning more heavily in the direction of a federation. This also means that the shared memes are shared more widely, with more of the polities that make up the Regency agreeing on the same values and on the shared "Regency-ness" that helps maintain unity; this is a major difference from other similar structures like the European Union, which never managed to find a shared sense of "European-ness" and failed as a result.
Structure of the RegencyThe Regency has a complicated structure, as one might imagine from a large meta-empire that covers several thousand square lightyears. Explaining the government in detail is beyond the scope of a simple overview; however, suffice to say that the Regency is superficially similar to the European Union in a number of ways, and the ways in which it's different - it's a fiscal union in addition to a monetary union, it has shared military and aerospace force, and the legislative body has a bit more influence on the local polities that make it up and vice versa - will answer any questions that go unanswered here.
It has a democratically elected body called the Parliament of Andromeda, and the Parliament is the body that votes on legislation; legislation that is designed by committees referred to as the Andromeda Commission. Agendas are developed by the Andromeda Council, who has both a president (Miguel Riviera; an elected position from the Parliament), the Regent (Maria Myong-Li Takemura, also the Regent of Bluefall; appointed and elected by the Senate of Bluefall), and the various Council members (appointed by the various governments). This is not the same thing as the Council of the Andromeda Regency, a body that reviews legislation, nor is it the same thing as the Council of Andromeda, which is an entirely different body that's attached to the Regency as semi-members. Other organs include the Andromeda Court of Justice and the Andromeda Central Bank. |

Haleism and the Berlin BoysHale's reforms were so widespread that they ended up lending his name to an economic theory; Haleism as a theory ends up looking like traditional post-scarcity dirigisme, but features a much more active and centralized authority, an outgrowth of Bluefall originally being a Monarchy. There were time when Hale almost pushed the Senate into using the "nuclear option," and removing him and themselves from power. However, he never crossed the line, and so his economic reforms generally went through and helped shape Bluefall and the Regency into what it is today. What few realize is that Haleism would probably never have worked had it not been for the "Berlin Boys" - these are five AGIs who were programmed by Germans in the early part of the Interstellar Period with the design goal of being bureaucracy optimizers or government optimizers, which means they set out to to optimize government and bureaucracy to its fullest. They have little patience for waste or deliberate attempts to handicap what they see as their holy objective, although it's worth noting that each Berlin Boy has a slightly different view of how government should be optimized. Of course, canny observers note that there are also five political parties on Bluefall as well. Meanwhile, Hale's reforms continue into the present, effectively forming a sort of technocratic populism with features of post-scarcity dirigisme; a uniquely Bluefall solution to a uniquely Bluefall situation. |
Regency History
Regency History stems back to the first wave of colonization during the First Interplanetary Age and to the Grand Fleet; the majority of the Regency stems form the Latin American-Asian/Pacific Grand Fleet, one of the largest of the fleets with ships that were sponsored by superpowers like Mexico and Canada, major regional powers like Brazil, Japan, Korea, and Australia, and with minor influence from other nations in the Pacific Rim - Thailand, Indonesia, the countries of Oceania, the United States, and the like. The LatAm-AP Grand Fleet made for the constellation Andromeda and ended up colonizing much of the stars along the way, with smaller vanguard fleets breaking off from the main fleet to settle or start the settling process in potential systems. Since the effort was coordinated, there was a great deal of cohesion maintained among the members who carried out the colonization and the result was a more cohesive Regency.
Fleet consisted of the Elisa Takashima at its core and dozens of smaller habitat ships, with the Elisa Takashima itself being a massive O'Neill cylinder. Once the ships were completed the fleet launched; one of the last fleets to do so. It began settling and establishing colonies as it flew, following between 12:00 and 1:30 on a star map as it did. The first major world that it settled was Nautilus, followed by Hudson, and finally, Bluefall, before it continued on its path. Antigua was settled by a splinter fleet and connected to the four. From the beginning, the four worlds were part of the shared economic and cultural sphere that is common called the Common Andromeda Economic and Cultural Union. For the first 40 to 50 Bluefall years of its existence, the largest member was actually Hudson, which was the colony that grew the quickest under the close watch of several elected supervisors. However, as the years went on, these supervisors became fixed in place and eventually became fixtures of government; the same happened on Bluefall as well. At roughly the same time, the first seeds for the Council of Andromeda were being established in Wang Liang and in several other habitats, although Mara was still under the control of their corporate overlords. On Bluefall, one of these administrators, Li Jae-Sun, managed to rise to prominence. His son, Li Hyung-Joon, assumed the same position as his father; Hyung-Joon was joined by Cole Hamilton on Hudson; Hamilton would eventually crown himself king, supported mostly by inertia, but it would take the Ascension Crisis for Hyung-Joon to do the same. An attempt to do the same on Antigua and Nautilus failed, since those societies were too distributed. King Li and King Hamilton were the first of several kings and they formed the Age of Monarchs, which lasted for roughly 200 Bluefall Years after the end of the Ascension Crisis; at the height of this, they founded the Kingdom of Andromeda, which included Nautilus, Antigua, and a few other members under the "dual crown dyarchy" of Bluefall and Hudson.
They came to an end when Bluefall's king, King Kazuko Li, lead a failed military defense of the Arrai system with Nariac that ended up leaving Nariac stranded after Li pulled the fleet away to shore up Bluefall against the Verge Financial Consortium during the Verge War. Nariac was destroyed in the Battle of Arrai and left to defend themselves while General Francisco de Almeda, infuriated that Li had functionally humiliated the Bluefall military in front of a foreign power, staged a coup. King Li was deposed and he fled, leaving behind the empty throne. Francisco de Almeda declared himself Regent of Bluefall, and the Regent of the Andromeda Consortium of Worlds. At roughly the same time, King Hamilton was forced to abdicate much of his power, and the Dual Crown Dyarchy came to an end, with the Kingdom of Andromeda briefly becoming the Andromeda Consortium, and then the Regency of Andromeda, with de Almeda at the head of both Bluefall and the whole Regency. Generalissimo ruled as a brutal dictator for much of his tenure but remained relatively popular despite this since he managed to turn back the Verge Consortium. However, his regressive policies and neoliberalism made him enemies, and it came to a head on Bluefall after he ordered the assassination of a popular Senator. This started the Yellow Ribbon Revolution, named so after the yellow ribbons everyone tied everywhere (the senator had been wearing a yellow tie). This revolution, while largely peaceful, ended with de Almeda being thrown out of power. Now ousted, he left command to his second-in-command, Christopher Hale.
Hale immediately set about rolling back a number of de Almeda's reforms, and set about instituting his own overall reforms. Hale's reforms were initially in line with de Almeda's but as he continued he began rolling back and changing more and more, especially on Bluefall, and pushed for greater democratization. Eventually, Hale's reforms lead to the current Andromeda Regency as it exists today; barely three Bluefall years ago Hale stepped down, leaving the granddaughter of King Li, Maria Myong-Li Takemura, as the Regent.

Regency Culture
Discussions about a "regency culture" are par for the course but they quickly turn problematic. Almost everyone knows that all of the central planets - Bluefall, Antigua, Hudson, and Nautilus - all share a similar culture, and that many of the outlying planets and habitats in the Regency similarly share that culture. However, determining how that culture breaks down is difficult and there are numerous models of how Regency Culture is organized. The most popular is the three spheres model which presents the Regency as largely a single culture but with three "cultural spheres" or "cultural blocs" that define it. This idea was lifted from the way that Monarchy culture is often classified, however, and as a result, has problems, not least of which being the problems that traditionally bedevil such labelling. Another popular method is "Inheritors of the West" model, which attempts to unify the Regency under a single "Western culture" label, but that quickly runs into two problems: one, Western culture was never well defined and two, the Regency has an incredibly strong Eastern cultural influence, as well. Still, many sociologists are quick to point out that the Regency holds a number of things that bring them in line with the West ideologically, such as a respect for democracy and pluralism as well as a tendency to be be a cultural mixing pot. These two views are the two most widely held views among sociologists, with the three-spheres model being the current dominant one taught.
Sociology of the RegencyThe Regency tends towards a post-scarcity communitarianism or a post-scarcity dirigisme for its government style; a specific style of post-scarcity dirigisme known as Haleism emerged on Bluefall during the reign of the Regent Christopher Hale and his dramatic post-Almeda reforms. Which economic philosophy tends to be dominant tends to depend on the area and the local population, as well as how the local population is distributed, with post-scarcity dirigisme holding a greater influence over the greater economic ideologies that run throughout the Verge and Bleed.
Ontologically, the Regency is conservative, rejecting the idea that other digital realities are as important as the "real reality." This means that digital realities can be owned and traded, although the AGIs are still considered "real people" since they have the capability of a creating actions that can affect the world inside and outside of these digital realities, in much the same way that a physical person can interact with multiple realities and affect them. This is called "ontological proventism" and is a major component of Regency law and legal theory. |
Three Spheres ModelFar and away the most popular model of the Regency, the three-spheres model divided the Regency into three component parts: the central bloc, the Andromeda bloc and the outer bloc. The central bloc consists largely of Bluefall, Hudson, Antigua, Nautilus, and other associated polities like the Miyamaki, Omugai, Saunderis Republic, and other associated republics that are tied to are culturally descended from the big four. This is the culture that was most strongly influenced by the Latin American-Asian Fleet that settled the region. The Andromeda bloc refers to the cultures of the Council of Andromeda; predominantly, Mara Jian, Wang Liang, the Phoenix Republic, Amaranth, and others; these cultures were established later by second and third wave settlers, and only picked up cultural traits from the central bloc through cultural osmosis. The Yangcheon Republic is also considered part of the Andromeda Bloc. The outer bloc consists mostly of cultures like Cyrene, the Acropolis Republic, Lyre, Gearhead, Sanctuary, Ghearlach, and Jer. Koh-i-Noor also falls here when it's considered a Regency member, but that's rare since it isn't even an observer. The Outer Bloc have nothing culturally in common with the Regency nor much in common with one another. Naturally, this model is not perfect. Things like the Americana and Republique were added later so they're often given a pass, and the Aegis Solar Union and the Ra-Heliopolis Pharaohcracy are considered outer bloc members, but problems emerge when lumping the outer bloc members together, since some of the outer bloc members do share cultural traits that would suggest "mini-blocs" within the outer bloc. However, this is the most widespread of the different models, and is the one that has produced the most widespread results. |
Cultural Memes and Concepts
The Regency has a number of widespread memes and ideas that shape its culture; below are some of the more widespread cultural ideas, subcultures, and various ideologies that help give it texture.
Chengshizhuyi
Type: Fashion/artistic movement/architectural style/economic ideology
Generally just called "Urbanizationism", this is an ideology, fashion, architectural style, and fashion style that was backwards imported into the Regency from Shangtao. Chengshizhuyi embraces a sharp distinction between the urban and the natural, treating buildings less as extensions of the natural world and more as distinctive, separate works of art that distinguish themselves through coloration and architectural styles that are different and stand apart from the natural world; these can range from brutalist to sweeping, rounded curves atop large towers, similar to the style found on Shangtao. Greys, reds, oranges, blacks, silvers, and metallic colors are all common; as a fashion, Chengshizhyui encourages the embrace of Chinese/Sino phenotypes and what's called liotipengke and pifupengke (translating loosely as "nude punk" and "skin punk"), which shares some overlap with Bubblegum Gothic and is gradually being absorbed into that style on Bluefall. However, liotipengke and pifupengke differ from Bubblegum Gothic in a number of major ways, not least of which being their tendency to hide the neck and their idea that men don't care about fashion as much as women do, both of which are assumptions held by the majority of Shangtao (it's considered scandalous to show the neck on Shangtao; a woman could walk around completely naked and be fine unless she shows her neck. Many Bluefallen find this amusing). Still, it's become popular in parts of the Council of Andromeda and may be right around the corner on Bluefall as well. As an economic ideology, it promotes a type of post-scarcity dirigisme, organized around a central state that is similar to but different from Haleism in a number of minor ways.
Egyptian Revivalism
Type: Artistic Movement
Something that can be blamed solely on the Ra-Heliopolis Theocracy, the Egyptian Revivalism (or, rather, New Egyptian Revivalism) is a tradition that was sparked several years ago Bluefall time when it suddenly became popular to sport Egyptian-themed apparel. Biosculpting to appear more Egyptian spread rapidly through the Regency, and the population of individuals sporting Egyptian tattoos and appearances exploded. A number of theme resorts with pyramids and sphinxes also increased almost overnight, and while the cycle has run through, it hasn't completely passed yet, with new revivals every few months throughout much of the Core Regency.
Environmental Realism
Type: Artistic Movement
The most recent movement in the Regency that started on Bluefall and spread from there, Environmental Realists seek to further erase the distinction between between humans and their environment; art work often realistically portrays the environment while making things like buildings and cars resemble biological and environmental aspects; for instance, an artist might find a rock that looks like a car and use it as the basis of their painting, which consists of these rocks following a root up to a large tree in much the same way cars follow a road. They are closely associated with Green Urbanism (although it's far from a perfect fit since many Environmental Realists are some degree of preservationist), and forests that can be portrayed as cities are a popular topic. Similarly, they tend to rely heavily on natural sounds in their musical and audio recordings, and in terms of film design, focuses on the natural world and the way the natural world impacts humans, and how humans impact the natural world, often with a strong conservationist theme.
Green Urbanism
Type: Economic ideology/social organization/architectural style
In sharp contrast with the New Urbanism meme, Green Urbanism seeks to centralize individuals in large, so-called "Green Cities," which sometimes vary between arcology and city in terms of overall construction. Buildings often flow into one another with tiered sidewalks, winding bikeways, and plenty of green and white designs with strong, smooth lines. It can sometimes be hard to tell where one building beings and another building ends, with the goal of Green Urbanism being the promotion of ecofriendly and psychologically healthy architecture, sometimes called ecotecture. These cities often have large, open promenades, skyways, canals, bike paths, and winding, curved or swirling sidewalks that can resemble the comb-designs of a Zen Garden. These "Ecohoods" are often connected via thoroughfares to other Ecohoods, with some ecohoods being little more than single building while others are many different buildings. Between these buildings is enviroscaping, which is where the environment is altered to be friendly towards people and to provide shelter if necessary while at the same time not disturbing the overall local ecology. Green Urbanism is a part of the greater "Nanoecologist" umbrella of ideologies. Economically, Green Urbanism tends to promote post-scarcity dirigisme.
Haleism
Type: Economic ideology
The dominant economic ideology of Bluefall and to a lesser extent, the rest of the Regency, Haleism is similar to post-scarcity dirigisme except that it promotes a more activities centralized authority, whether that be a larger executive branch or a more powerful board of directors. The Executive or Director manages much of the economy directly, with the government encouraged to invest in the local infrastructure, local hypercorps, and local network architecture and topology, although not to the extent that it owns these things directly; rather, it's encouraged to own controlling interest in these things stocks and then use that money to finance larger public works projects.
Kankyogo
Type: Historiographic Movement
An emerging academic and historiographic movement within the Regency, Kankyogo (shorted form of kankyo hogo shugi; 環境保護主義) examines the history of science through the impacts, both positive and negative, that it has had on nature and the natural world, and how this in turn has impacted the human civilizations. It places a special emphasis on terraforming efforts, analyzing history through the success and methods used in applied geoengineering (whether it be deliberate, like Bluefall, or accidental, like the Anthropocene thermal maximum, which resulted in devastating climate change), although examinations of agriculture and the evolution of the city, industrialization, and the like are also common targets. With this lens, historians hope to give voice to the natural world, telling stories from the perspective of the environment and demonstrating how its change affects the human change. Some go further, suggesting that shifts in the environment are what give rise to various forms of human organization, a sort of biogeographic historicism called ecohistory or ecohistoricism. This model adopts the Nariac Dialectic in rejecting the Hegelian dialectic and holds that civilizations and nation-states arise out of changes to the natural world, and that the more damage done to the natural world - in terms of involuntary climate change, pollution, environment injustice and the like - the more authoritarian the nation-state becomes.
Sifters, Skimmers and Spacers
Type: Subcultures/Major Cultures
While Sargasso is often confused for a skimmer culture, it really isn't; Cyrene, however, comes much closer to being a true skimmer culture, with some aspects of Lyre bringing them close to being a Skimmer Culture as well. However, despite this, there are no true skimmer cultures in the Regency, nor are there any true sifter cultures; the same cannot be said, however for spacers. The Gypsy Star Fleet is one of the largest independent fleets of spacers and they are considered formal members of the Regency, although they have their own culture and their own ideas about how to best organize things.
Xenosciencism
Type: Historiographic Movement/Political Movement/Fashion/Artistic Movement
Xenosciencism is a relatively recent historical movement that emerged out of Lyre, pioneered by its highly eccentric leader, Missy Hamasaki. Xenosciencism examines history through the eyes of the alien species, and attempts to understand history on a galactic scale, piecing together what little humanity knows to provide a larger picture, often using the megastructures to produce pictures of what the history of the alien species might look like. It's spun off into a political movement that's devoted to saving and studying alien artifacts, and keeping them free from the exploitation of corporations, both mega and hyper, and promotes legislation that would deem them national treasures or national parks (this is not a position everyone agrees with, especially since it might close off avenues of study and keep companies from monetizing the developments that they find in the structures). The political movement has spun into an art and fashion movement, as well, with Xenoscience music attempting to recreate the ambient noise of these xenoarcheological sites and imagining what the music of the aliens sounded like, while Xenoscience fashion and art attempts to recreate what many believe the dress and artistic styles of the aliens looked like. Biosculpting procedures attempt to recreate alien species from popular fiction, including Star Wars, Mass Effect, Star Trek, and other franchises that are in the public domain (on Bluefall, anyway; in the Verge Consortium the results may vary), since nobody is for sure what the actual aliens looked like. Dress often incorporates as much of the alien architecture as possible, which for glassmaker fashion results in completely transparent clothing with rounded edges and fluted hats and hairstyles, while for the stoneburners, it tends to result in asymmetrical clothing (in typical Bluefall fashion) that is textured to look like stone with circuitry burned into the surface.

Cultural Familiarity in the Regency
Within the Regency, all of the cultures are fairly closely related, with some minor exceptions, which results in Cultural Familiarity (Andromeda Regency) being a valid choice, and something that most citizens are familiar with. However, each planet as its own culture as well that sometimes stands apart, and so Cultural Familiarity (Planet) exists as well. In these instances, Cultural Familiarity (Planet) defaults to Cultural Familiarity (Andromeda Regency) at a -1 penalty (for Bluefall, Hudson, and others), a -2 penalty (for the Council of Andromeda), or the full -3 penalty (for rare ones, like Cyrene, that were never part of the Andromeda Regency). Thus, an individual with Cultural Familiarity (Andromeda Regency) experiences a -1 penalty rather than a -3 penalty when dealing with someone from Bluefall, and vice versa. In all of the above cases, each Cultural Familiarity only costs 1 point.
Regency MemebersThere are a number of significant members of the Regency, but outside of core four - Bluefall, Hudson, Nautilus, and Antigua, membership becomes a bit confusing without an Euler diagram of some kind to map the various relationships. In practice, however, they break down into one of four agreements; while all four of core members are in all four agreements, all of the associate members are not. The first is the Realzone (RZ) this is the members of the Region who don't have representation within the Regency Parliament but make use of the Real as their currency; they are often given membership within the Andromeda Council. The next is the Soares Area (SA) which is an agreement among members to open their boarders to member members. This allows free traffic of people and goods between the various members, without the population needing a visa to travel. The next is the Andromeda Common Market (ACM) which, among other things, removes tariffs on all goods traded between members of the ACM while imposing a uniform tariff on all traded outside of it - the entire Council of Andromeda (including the Marajian Republic) are members. The last is the Common Defense Union (CDU), which is a shared agreement among members to always come to the defense of one another, and to help pay for a shared common defense budget. |
Andromeda Regency Membership
The Regency is one of the largest of the Meta-Empires, but this is in part due to illusion. The Regency is not a unified meta-empire; it combines aspects of a federation and a confederation to produce a unified group of polities that exists primarily to facilitate open borders, tariff and duty-free trade, and the free movement of people between the members, but over the years the Andromeda Parliament has acquired more and more influence over the member governments - or, rather, the member governments who allow it. Second perhaps only to the Verge Consortium, this coalition nature makes the Regency a diffuse and decentralized, centralized federal power. The list below includes all members, including formal members with representation in parliament, members who are just part of the Realzone, just part of the Soares Area, just part of the Andromeda Common Market, or any combination there of.

Something as big as us has no right being simple and if it were, I'd be afraid we were doing something wrong. In the annuals of human history many nations and people have stood together to defend human rights, individual freedom, and civil liberties; throughout human history, these nations have stood on one another's shoulders, each one built upon the last, each one an increment forward on the long arrow of history, the weight of each new nation on arrow bending it ever closer to justice and freedom, ideals the Andromeda Regency and all signatory members vow to protect, secure, and maintain, for the posterity and the welfare of the shared human experience from here until the heat death of the universe and beyond, if necessary and if possible. |
Members and current affairs
Acropolis Republic
Current Affairs: Currently, the Acropolis Republic is eying a potential expansion to the neighboring planet of Antipolis, and branching out to further develop their smaller system. However, the Republic is finding it difficult to get the resources to do this, and so is currently trying to petition the Regency Monetary Union for assistance in doing so. Americana Republic
Current Affairs: The population of the Americana are still adjusting to their new reality as bit players in a much larger picture, and as always, there is a political struggle within the Americana over the nature of what the U.S. should be over what it is, especially when faced with the newer, more advanced technology. Bluefall Regency
Current Affairs: Bluefall is currently undergoing a rapid development in the wake of the largely successful (but still ongoing) terraforming project. Many development companies and businesses are seeking to exploit the rush to settle the surface. Meanwhile, the Regency is at the heart of yet another IP dispute with the Consortium, over various blueprints. French Republic
Current Events: The French Republic is currently in the process of negotiating with the Democratic Bluefall Regency for control over several islands on the surface of the planet, which they would make part of the sovereign territory of France and develop. The French have also been working to re-establish the Academy of the French Language. Gypsy Star Fleet
Current Affairs: The Gypsy Star Fleet is currently berthed in orbit around Bluefall for repairs and ship upgrades, meaning that seeing the Tennyo on the surface of Bluefall and in the Bluefall swarm isn't that unusual. This project has been ongoing since the Fleet returned to the Aegis system with the Americana and Republique in tow behind them. Hamish Republic
Current Affairs: The Hamish Republic has recently expanded its influence into nationalizing the various pharming and xenopharming companies through a process called co-ownership. This nationalization is as a result of worries about corporation abuse of the environment, and an unspoken fear that the corporations may have Hali sympathies. Jer Republic
Current Events: The Jer Republic has recently began a paraterraforming effort in the Zhanzhol and Talap Basins, two areas that may prove slightly harder to paraterraform then other areas given their geography. However, with their expertise, few are overly concerned, and Mara has offered assistance if the Republic needs it, which they may take. Marajian Republic
Current Events: Marajian and the Acropolis Republic have once again crossed one another's path and both of them are at odds with one another, with Mara supporting android rights while the Acropolis Republic opposes "clone" rights. Their ongoing dispute has yet to drag in the Andromeda Council, but this particularly heated one might. Omugai Republic
Current Events: As the only McKendree Cylinder in the Regency, the Omugai occupies an unusual position and upkeep is very important and an ongoing job. A recent micrometeorite impact has blinded part of the station, and efforts to repair the damage are ongoing but becoming fairly expensive. Ra-Heliopolis Republic
Current Events: The Ra-Heliopolis Republic has recently turned its attention back towards Earth, with a deep interest in gathering Egyptian Artifacts from Earth and providing a place to store them. This isn't exactly feasible given the Solar System is a disaster, the the Pharaoh has expressed an interest in collecting as many as possible - up to the pyramids themselves. Sargasso Republic
Current Events: The various lineages have recently began efforts to design a cybershell capable of withstanding the pressures and heat near lower levels of the gas giant so they can dive for the metallic hydrogen, which is meta-stable and would make for excellent widespread industrial usage. Typhon Republic
Current Affairs: Another terraforming movement has been kick-started thanks to the successful terraforming of Bluefall and reports of attempts to terraforming tidally locked worlds in the Verge and Bleed, with Typhon wanting to be the first tidally locked world terraformed. However, a substantial number of people disagree, remembering the past attempts. Xengshi Republic
Current Affairs: Xengshi continues the gradual expansion of its planet, with growing rumors that the planet may have developed life at one time, only for that life to die out. So far, no solid evidence of this has been found, but a number of unusual tunnels that have no immediately obvious geological explanation are popular targets for conspiracy mongers. |
Aegis Union
Current Affairs: The Aegis Union has several ongoing projects; the first is a major expansion into stellar husbandry with their parents tar, Aegis, while they are also looking to run a "dress rehearsal" of sorts with Samaria, the companion star within the Cania system. However, red tape and worry over the scale is slowing the matter down. Antigua Republic
Current Affairs: The Antigua Republic is currently mounting a long-term project to try and study the native alien Kintana, who up to this point have been reclusive, while also struggling with tourists, some of whom recently came into violent conflict with the Kintana after they apparently provoked it so they could record it. Cascadia Republic
Current Affairs: Cascadia is an active supporter for Lyre joining the Regency, and this has earned it the ire of those who oppose Lyre membership. Meanwhile, a group of terraria producers and experimental biosynthetic engineers have taken up residence on Cascadia, and are interested in producing more terraria with artificial ecosystems. Gearhead Republic
Current Affairs: The Gearheads continue their ongoing effort to convert the third moon of Rebab into computronium, which they hope they can eventually inhabit. Similar, they have also started exploring the possibility of several alien meh networks in the system; no solid evidence exists for these networks, but there is some circumstantial evidence. Halenoho Republic
Current Affairs: There is debate over whether or not to return to Antigua as an administrative division, although this debate isn't as widespread as the media may make it seem. The bigger issue confronting the habitat is food and food production, and they've recently entered into an agreement with Greenhouse Blue to help cover that, with new terraria as a result. Hanakotoba Republic
Current Affairs: The Hanakotoba is set to hold the upcoming G-SIC and GEU meetings, and is the process of widespread urban and habitat renovation as it prepares for this honor. Similarly, rapid growth for five straight quarters has boosted the local economy and encouraged more social spending, which is also helping the renovation. Jetsam Republic
Current Events: The pro-Almeda Party has recently passed legislation that will make it harder for those who oppose their agenda to vote, to widespread condemnation. However, this is only at a local level; at a government-wide level, the pro-Almeda Party lacks that power and doesn't seem like they'll get it back, which some note will only drive them away from democracy. Miyamaki Republic
Current Affairs: There is an ongoing conversation within the habitat about rejoining the Bluefall Planetary Swarm now that Generalissimo de Almeida is gone, but so far this has yet to gain any traction among the population. The habitat has also purchased resources from GateKeeper Corporation to help them manage the wormhole gate and its upkeep. Padma Republic
Current Events: There has been a resurgence of interest in Antiguan culture following several recent major InVid production that hit the habitat, with the Republic more interested than before in exploring the heritage that it appears as is if it forgot, or was subsumed by the larger Indus Civilization culture. Regelia Republic
Current Events: The so-called Hjerkinn Observance meme has started to spread among the population; the Observance advocates the use of biology and pods rather than cybershells, which is against their traditional culture, but newer AGIs appear interested in learning what it's like to be biological, like the creatures that they populate their cylinder with. Sauderis Republic
Current Events: There have been some recent talks of para-terraforming the surface of the planet, with the majority of the population in at least partial support. However, given the powerful X-rays, such a project would be very large scale and more dangerous than just about any para-terraforming operation before it. Wang-Liang Republic
Current Affairs: Several of the larger meta-villages have gotten together and established a large InVid and "culture producing" corporation called the Wang-Liang Cultural Collective, with an eye towards promoting New Urbanism and the social norms on Wang-Liang throughout the Council of Andromeda and in the rest of the Verge and Bleed. Yangcheon Republic
Current Affairs: Research into the ancient Numidians continues, while several domed habitats are currently preparing for bi-decade meeting for the Xenoarcheological Studies community, which will see individuals from all over the Verge and Bleed, including representatives from the ASAI and the Archimedes Society present. |
Amaranth Republic
Current Affairs: The Amaranth Republic currently expanding their various jungle domes across the surface of the planet to add more space to their habitats. The cost of this, however, is causing some pushback against the New Urbanism meme, with Urban Revivalism and Haleism becoming increasingly popular among the planetary assembly. Bellerophon Republic
Current Affairs: The Republic is current torn over potential membership with the Regency, with approximately half supporting it and half opposed. Similarly, another divide want to declare their sovereignty form Lyre, with the half that want independence generally opposing Regency membership. Cyrene Federation
Current Affairs: There are widespread reports of another aerostat on the planet, deeper in the cloud decks, that there are no official records of. Numerous reports have been filed of it within the last few years. Similarly, there's talk of engineering another aerostat, with the Federation slowly acquiring the resources for it from various sources. Ghearlach Republic
Current Affairs: Ghearlach is considered an independent entity, but there is a movement within Ghearlach that is pushing to join with the Democratic Bluefall Regency and become an autonomous territory. This political debate is becoming rathe rancorous between the two opposing sides, causing some leaders to try and clam the temperature. Hali Republic
Current Affairs: The Hali Republic is currently coming off its third civil war, and the new democratically elected government seems determined to make this leadership stick, with widespread investment in various infrastructure projects. With 30% not supporting the new government, the G-SIC, or GEU, however, time will tell if it can last or if another war is soon. Hudson Kingdom
Current Events: There are ongoing talks between Hudson and Alhambra with regards to terraforming Elam, or the possibility of terraforming Elam. Meanwhile, the current King is insinuating that he will advocate his throne in favor of his son, who is rumored to wish he could have much more power like other Monarchs, which may pose a problem. Lyre Republic
Current Events: Lyre continues its research in the megastructure, and its push to join the Regency. Meanwhile, the dictator of Lyre, Melissa Hamaski, has managed to avoid another attempt by the Senate to get her out of power after she was re-elected by the majority of the population. Missy remains incredibly popular with the people. Mugunghwa Republic
Current Affairs: The Mugunghwa Republic attempting to figure out what to do with excess space. It's population has been on a steady decline since the Ascension Crisis, and this has gotten to the point where it's now affecting the economy, promoting the government to initiate a mass child-creation campaign with tech from the Acropolis Republic. Phoenix Republic
Current Events: The Phoenix Republic remains a hotbed for espionage and conflict between the Verge Consortium and the Andromeda Regency. The Regency has recently offered to help expand an O'Neill cylinder that's part of the Republic, while the Phoenix Republic itself attempts to design a unified Phoenix Development Commission - with little luck. Sanctuary Republic
Current Events: Sanctuary has found itself at ground zero for the Indus Rebirth Movement, which appears to have started in the Monarchy among Demeter and some of the other territories. The general consensus is that they're happy with the Regency, the longer the meme goes on, the more invasive it may eventually become. Savai'i Republic
Current Affairs: The Republic continues to have an interest in where their predecessors went, while an economic boom period has allowed for decent population growth. Being a population of diehard preservationists, they are generally not supportive of terraforming the various worlds in the Regency. Wu-Yu Republic
Current Affairs: The Wu-Yu Corporation Republic has seen a boost in production thanks to increased trade between Cyrene and the rest of the Regency, with the Republic increasing its reach and importance in the Phoenix System as a result of this. The establishment of a Starware platform around Koh-i-Noor, however, is shaping up to cause problems. |
