AyahBiomorph [Pod, Anthropomorphic]The Ayah pod is a relatively common type of pod that refers to a collective varying different pod types, all of them sharing a few things in common. The first of the various pods to be called an "Ayah" emerged on Mars during the early Interstellar period, where they were piloted as a way to help raise children and train children, to make up for a shortage of teachers and educators. Although it's likely the first true Ayah emerged on Earth and was involved in healthcare fields, especially taking care of elderly and infirm patients. In any situation, the Ayah pod is a pod that is ideal for taking care of patients, and are often found as live-in assistants, au pairs, daycare workers, healthcare providers, and the like.
Even into the present, Ayah pods are almost always female, and are almost always designed with pleasant but not particularly striking looks. As they're pods, the seams where they were grown and then pieced together are usually visible, since no effort is made to hide what they are. However, all of the traits that make Ayah special are "under the hood," so to speak. They feature an enhanced sense of smell, allowing them to be aware of the emotional state of their charges at all times, while also incorporating an air-based sonar and extended, ultrasonic hearing that allows them to see directly into the body of their war. The infravision, allowing them to detect temperature, and even have oxygen storage, so they can survive brief periods of decompression so they can save their wards. Their pleasant voices are designed to be soothing and calming, and their body language and posture is designed so that they are non-confrontational. AGIs and AIs that are installed into an Ayah are usually trained to have a positive bedside manner, and generally have a good awareness of first aid and a variety of different medical procedures and treatments. Lastly, their acute hearing and their sharp sense of taste and smell allows them to detect noises and chemicals others might miss, while their modified joints and muscle tissue is enhanced, making them much stronger than they would outwardly appear to be. Most Ayah are capable of lifting and carrying a fully-grown adult human with minimal effort. Ayah pods are popular with aged gerontocrats, many of whom suffer from degenerative conditions that modern science still finds difficult, if not impossible, to completely cure. The average demesne of an gerontocrat will usually have a small staff of Ayah working away, either helping to take care of them or caring for the extended family, well into the great-great-grandkids and the great-great-great grandkids.
