DvergrBiomorph [Genotype, Econiche]Dvergar (plural; singular is dvergr) are a genotype that developed naturally out of a human subspecies that developed accidentally. The first Dvergr were baseline humans whos physiology and metabolism had adapted over time - poorly - to high gravity environments. When engineers noticed the ways that the metabolisms and physiologies were adapting, they began using genetic upgrades and eventually, transgenic treatments, to produce a variant of human that is capable of withstanding high gravity. These design choices were backwards engineered into the original population and propagated going forward, leading to the genesis of a new line that has been part of the human family since the middle of the first Interstellar Period.
Dvergr are best suited for life between 1.5 G and 2.0 G.; they have more muscle to get around, strong bones to avoid breaking them in falls, and resilient circulatory systems to prevent an early death due to heart disease and failure. This is a genotype that is sometimes as tall as it is wide, and they rarely stand much taller than four feet or a little over four feet. Generally, all these modifications give them thick arms and legs with a barrel chest, as well as squat features that are generally seen as unattractive by the bulk of humanity off these worlds. They also frequently have problems passing through doors that are designed for normal humans, especially those clades from higher gravity worlds where more muscle and a broader shoulder are required to get around. They weigh 25% more than normal for their ST, but are 1' less than the minimum height indicated. Intersting facts

Dvergr Variants and FAmily
While there are a surprising number of Dvergr clades, there are actually a relatively small number Dvergr variants. This is in part because, like the Dragonfly, the original model was pretty well adapted to the environment it lived in, and it was relatively niche enough to not need further adaptation. The only major changes include slight increases to overall health and strength, which are not usually worthy of being separate entries and usually only occur on an individual level, but there are a handful of variants all the same.
Android Dvergr (+26 points)
Cybercore Dvergr (+42 Points) Pod Dvergr (+29 Points): |
These are Dvergrs that are produced as androids, often for customer-facing or people-facing jobs. Add Android Body [-4] and Basic Biomods [30]. 74 points.
These are a bioshell version of the Dvergr, engineered for digitals who are native to the Dvergr or who want it as a body. Add Bioshell Body [9], Basic Biomods [30], and Cortical Stack [6]. 90 points. These are pod Dvergr. Overall, they're relatively rare, since cybershells make for better shells when operating at higher gravities. Add Basic Biomods [30], Cortical Stack [6], and Pod Body [-7]. 77 points. |
Econiche Dvergr
Dvergr are designed to inhabit superearths, which tend to have a higher gravities. However, superearths are not uniform-biome worlds in most cases (Earth-like ones especially). As a result, there are a number of econiche Dvergr that exist or have existed at various points in the history of the Verge and Bleed. The following are some of the ones that are currently on record, although there may be others.
Drylander Dvergr (+17 Points)
Frostlander Dvergr (+13 Points) Martian Dvergr (+13 Points) Wetlander Dvergr (+14 Points) |
Drylander dvergr, also sometimes called Badlands dvergr, Desert dvergr, or Sahel dvergr, are dvergr who are engineered to handle dry, dusting climates. They are not engineered to the extent that the Drylander itself is (the basic genotype that gave rise to the Nomad), but they are still very capable of surviving under these conditions. Add HT +1 [10], Filter Lungs [5], Reduced Consumption 1 (Water Only, -50%) [1], and Temperature Tolerance 1 [1]. It's not unusual to find ones that are completely covered in fur or have scales, as well, although these aren't included by default in the genotype. 65 points.
Frostlander dvergr, also called Arctic dvergr, are dvergr that are engineered to handle cold climates, similar to those found in the polar regions of Earth-like worlds. They are often bulkier than the average dvergr, and are much more hirsute and thick-skinned, to help insulate them from the cold. Add HT +1 [10] and Temperature Tolerance 3 [3]. They are often covered in fur, but this is not included in the core genotype package. 61 points. Martian dvergr are similar to drylander dvergr with the exception that they can function with much less oxygen than necessary and are adapted to Arean conditions. Superarean worlds are actually very rare - worlds that large tend to hold onto their atmosphere by sheer dint of size and mass - but they do sometimes exist and this genotype does exist on file in several locations, so it was deemed necessary to engineer, even if it has never seen use. Add Doesn't Breathe (Oxygen Storage x25, -50%) [10], Nictitating Membrane 1 [1[, and Reduced Consumption 1 (Air Only, 2/3 second, +100%) [2]. 61 points. Wetlander Dvergr are not dvergr that are adapted to ocean life; rather, they are adapted to living a coastal, semi-aquatic existence. This is in part because superworlds, with their large gravity, rarely experience much variation in surface profile, so they usually do not have deep oceans, nor do they have high mountain ranges, and muddy, marshy conditions are common. These ones rarely have hair, and they often have webbed fingers and toes. Add Basic Move +1 (Water only, -50%) [3], Doesn't Breathe (Oxygen Storage x25, -50%) [10], and Temperature Tolerance 1 [1]. 62 points. |
