NomadBiomorph [Genotype, Econiche]Dating back to the early Interstellar Period, the Nomad is a genotype that is designed for survival on hostile, desert and desert-like worlds. They are various eco-niche genotypes, and while the first generations only feature mild engineering (they were originally called the Drylander) the second generation Nomad featured more extensive engineering, including another of alterations to gross morphology that are all with the aim of preserving water and optimizing water and food usage, all with an eye towards producing a genotype with a high degree of survivability. By the late Interstellar Period, the genotype was found throughout much of settled space and even beyond.
The Nomad features a great deal of camel genetics incorporated into the genome. Their face is elongated, like that of a camel, with a nose and mouth that's designed to catch water when the genotype exhales. They also feature thicker skin, to protect them against the harsh rays of the sun, and more efficient sweat glands, so they don't overheat. Finally, they also feature camel feet, which helps them travel better over loose soil and gravel. The sum total of all the changes to the genotype are sometimes seen as off-putting towards bioconservatives, but the genotype isn't designed to win fashion awards. However, the genotype is very efficient at what it does, and what it does is survive in harsh, dry environments. They are quite hefty under normal circumstances, since their body is designed to carry a great deal of adipose tissue, which can be moved around the body to account for high or low temperatures. However, while out in the field, they can become quite skinny, surviving only on their fat for long periods of time before they can come back to civilization and stock back up. Depending on the prevailing conditions of the planet that they currently occupy, one is label to find Nomads in various states of food stock, with some hefty and others very skinny. Interesting facts
