ErosGenotype [Android, IDeal PArahuman]Living up to the so-called "Rule of First Adopters," Eros are a type of android (and eventually, a type of parahuman as well) who are engineered to be professional courtesans, prostitutes, or similar sex-related professions. They first emerged at some point in the Interplanetary Period as a type of primitive pod or cybershell, although any indication of this heritage is long gone, since modern versions are almost always androids. They have gone into and out of fashion over the years and centuries, with different variants emerging and then sliding into oblivion, although they have recently resurged in popularity now that androids are more common; pod variants are referred to as "pleasure pods." Among androids they are also some of the most contentious, given that they challenge ethics of consent and raise the highly uncomfortable specter of sexual slavery. However, this is blithely ignored by man corporations who produce them, and within the last 30 or so years, an "arms race" of sorts has started between companies attempting to produce the "perfect Eros," each one competing with the others to produce the most effective and popular model of the Eros. They also act as an interesting expression of the lengths that humans will go to in order to achieve pleasure, and how flexible the ethics of those providing that pleasure can be in order to obtain money in exchange for "services rendered."
Eros androids are high-end pleasure androids that have an inhumanly perfect body, plus brain, glandular, joint, physical and bacteriological modifications that ensure they are always eager, playful, and disease-free. The highly attractive appearance is often achieved by averaging the appearance of many individuals who are considered "attractive" and "highly attractive" throughout the Verge and Bleed, producing a highly beautiful variant of humanity. The joint work includes modified synovial fluid, as well as alterations to the glands to increase sex drive and give them a deeper, more thorough sleep. Finally, they feature exaggerated sexual characteristics and enlarged erogenous zones, such as the whole of the inner thigh, the neck, and other areas of the body, including ones not normally considered, like fingers. Eros Variants and FAmily
Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are thousands of different variants of the Eros on file; designing new sexbots, like designing new soldiers, never gets old and there are countless variations on a theme. While most are just biosculpting (which results in a truly bewildering number of clades), there are a number of that are significantly different enough they warrant a separate mention as a distinctive member.
Cybercore Eros (+19 Points)
Pleasure Pod (+34 Points) Self-Replicating Eros (-31 Points) Sex Bot (+18 Points) |
The bioshell variant of the eros is actually a surprisingly common request for individuals looking to have a physical body, given some of the more exotic modifications and the attractiveness inherent in the android. Delete Android Body [+4] and add Bioshell Body [9] and Cortical Stack [6]. 62 points.
The pod variant of the Eros is a little more unusual, since they come with the ability to alter their physical sex at will, allowing them to adopt whatever sex they feel like at the time, or to whatever sex their customer wants. Delete Android Body [+4] and add Pod Body [-7], Basic Mesh Inserts [26], Cortical Stack [6], and Hermaphormorph [5]. 77 points. This is the variant of the Eros that attained self-replicating status in the Marajian Republic, and they form the bulk of the population within the Marajian Republic. Delete Android Body [+4] and Basic Biomods [-30] and add Unusual Biochemistry [-5]. They are capable of self-replication; Eros that are pre-puberty do not have the Impulsiveness or Lecherousness traits and are instead indistinguishable from normal children (delete the Skill bonuses [-4], Lecherousness [+15], and Impulsiveness [+10]). 12 points. The classic synthetic, designed for sexual intercourse and featuring a number of interesting traits. Delete all disadvantages [+34] and the Attentive Quirk [+1], Basic Biomods [-30], and Alcohol Tolerance [-1] and add the Synth Meta-Trait [14]. They have the Living Flesh and Synthetic Organs lenses; for more information see the Synth page. 61 points. |
Biosculpting Options
While biosculpting usually defines a "clade," with an android type like the Eros clades are nebulously defined at best. Most Eros are property, not people, and as such, rarely have a chance to form subcultures and clades. However, if they can escape, they often find themselves fitting in well among clades that have biosculpting which mimics the biosculpting they were ordered with. As such, biosculpting alone does not indicate a "clade" with an Eros.
Alien (-1 to -3 Points)
Fugu (+17 points) Furry (+5 points) Gothic (+13 points) |
The alien variant features biosculpting to resemble an humanoid alien species from popular fiction, often a highly popular, high humanoid one. They can also resemble any species or subclade as well, such as elves. However, they do not have any of the other modifications that go with those androids, just the appearance. Often this just awards Distinctive Features [-1] or Unnatural Features 1 to 3 [-1 to -3], depending on how divergent the alien species in question is. 43 - 40 points.
The Fugu variant features an implant that allows the saliva and bodily fluids to secrete a pleasurable drug when excited or frightened that is absorbed upon contact with the skin; while not inherently dangerous, the drug has been known to cause heart attacks for those with weak cardiovascular systems. When exposed, the victim must make an HT roll a minute after, and failure means that he's incapacitated by ecstasy for minutes equal to their margin of failure; failure by 5+ means a heart attack. Add Affliction 1 (HT; Blood Agent, -40%; Onset, 1 minute, -10%; Ecstasy, +100%; Emergencies Only, -30%; Melee Attack, C, -30%; Secondary Heart Attack, +60%) [15]. 58 points. The Furry variant is an android that has big eyes, soft fur, large cat, bunny, or fox ears, and a bushy tail, but lacks dangerous animalistic features like sharp teeth or claws, and as such are not typically considered Rianths or members of that superclade. Add Acute Hearing 1 [2], Fur [1], Night Vision 1 [1], and Unnatural Features 1 [-1]. 48 points. The Gothic variant is a "vampire poser" model that has an altered metabolism allowing it to release endorphins whenever it consumes any quantity of blood except its own. It also has retractable fangs, and is capable of entering into a death-like trance and lowering its body temperature substantially, appearing dead to most scanners. Change its appearance to Appearance (Handsome/Beautiful, Androgynous) [-3] with Distinctive Features (Pale skin and red eyes) [-1], and add Less Sleep 2 [4], Metabolism Control 2 [10], Night Vision 2 [2], Sharp Teeth (Switchable, +10%) [2], and Minor Addiction (Blood) [-1]. 56 points. |
Commecialized VAriants
While all androids are commercialized to a degree, Eros especially, some variants of the base eros are designed with particular markets in mind (almost all of them human markets). This is a short-list of the more popular variants of these Eros.
Budget Model (-41 Points)
Girl/Boy Next Door (-24 Points) Nyame (+31 Points) Submissia (+53 Points) |
Exactly what it says; a cheap variant of the android that tends to rely more on cybernetics and nanoware than skilled engineering, often produced by criminal groups. Delete Alcohol Tolerance [-1], Deep Sleeper [-1], and HT +1 [-10], as well as Double-Jointed [-15], Voice [-10], and the skill bonuses [-4]. 2 points.
A model often designed for those looking for a "normal" companion, which is popular less as a prostitute and more a courtesan or an escort in most circles. It's not unusual for wealthy business people and hyperelite to have a cadre of these androids to select from when they attend galas and the like. Delete Double Jointed [-15], Lecherousness [-15], and Voice [-10], as well as the skill bonuses [-4]. 19 points. The Nyame is a variant that features the hermaphormorph feature found in the pleasure pod. Most have a very androgynous appearance, although some made-to-order subtypes remove this feature and give them are distinctively male or female appearance. Delete ST -1 [+10], Impulsiveness [+10], and the skill bonues [-4] and add HT +1 [10] and Hermpahormoph [5]. 74 points. The Submissa variant is a variant of the Eros designed for those who want to play rough, but would rather not have to deal with the questionable ethics of the Algonaut (see below). They are often surprisingly robust, although they usually have no inclination towards masochism or sadism themselves. Delete the ST -1 [+10] and Impulsiveness [+10] and add HT +2 [20], DR 1 (Tough Skin, -40%) [3], Very Rapid Healing [15], and Will -1 [-5]. 93 points. |
Algonaut [Android] |
99 points |
The Algonaut is an ethically dubious sex android that is designed for sadistic and cruel owners. They have conditioning that makes them aroused when they are in danger, and they have a low pain threshold, so they are quick to experience pain much more purely than other individuals. Even in places where androids are property they are often highly illegal because most individuals recognize the negative optics of this android type, but that doesn't mean it's universally the case; they are often produced by criminals, but they also appear in Libertarian habitats as well, and they are often the property of wealthy and powerful oligarchs who are capable of flouting whatever law they want.
Some Algonauts are freed, and those who are get provided with psychological and medical therapy that makes them socially functional in places where bioroids have legal rights. They still need special nanodrug treatments; these represent a Mitigator (weekly, needs special prescription), worth -60%, to their Low Pain Threshold and Lecherousness disadvantages. This changes the values of these to -4 points each (and reduces the cost to 91 points). However, some of these Algonauts withdraw from their medications from time to time in the company of people they trust absolutely, since their conditioning runs deep.

Houri [Android] |
86 points |
The Houri is a version of the Eros designed for the elite and powerful of the Verge and Bleed, although the Houri is most strongly associated with the rich and powerful Sunni oligarchs that hold the real power within the Umma. This is despite the local society disapproving of the idea and the use of and existence of androids being illegal within the Umma. They are universally found within the houses of the major ruling Sunni Oligarchs and the Christian community leaders that they feel further the goals of the Umma while promoting proper religious values; while statistics are difficult to come by, the Ganymede variant appears to be possibly more popular with the older generation of leaders. Outside of their houses they are illegal; in fact, the prohibition on their creation and existence puts all variants in a highly dangerous position, since they aren't legally people and have no legal protections or rights.
The existence of the Houri is a public secret, and it's one roundly condemned by lower-level clerics and priests. A number of radical Shi'ite clerics have used the existence of the Houri (and the Ganymede variant) to attack the Umma for not living up to its own standards and have called on the abolishment of Houri production and the destruction of all living Houri in the Umma. Others, including moderate Sunni clerics, don't go that far and simply want all the Houri exported, for fear that God will punish them. These cries often fall on deaf ears, since the rich and powerful have very little interest in following through with their promises. However, every so often a Houri gets lucky and escapes into the wider Verge and Bleed (this is especially true for the Scheherazade variant, who tend to be much smarter and are often more charismatic and are talented public speakers), although even here they may not find freedom since their masters may send bounty hunters to track them down, resulting in a dangerous combination of Enemies and Secret.

Valkyrie [Android] |
109 points |
The Valkyrie is a combined pleasure and combat android, designed to be both good at fighting and fornicating. Typically, they are used as bodyguards by wealthy and powerful criminal bosses and leaders, and appear frequently within the Lucullus League among the wealthier members of that society. As a model, the base Valkyrie is actually rather unstable, and so they are often ordered custom rather than a la carte, with many preferring to leave off the Lecherousness or the Impulsiveness. Some may also feature some more interesting under-the-hood modifications, such as implanted body armor, but these are aftermarket add-ons.
Valkyrie are actually less common than some of the more usual bodyguards, like the Guardian Synthetic or the Tiaoqi android-variant of the Bruiser. This is in part because they are generally seen as psychologically unstable and threatening. Their strong sense of duty means they don't lose their temper with their master or the individual that they are tasked with guarding, but almost anyone else is fair game, which isn't always useful when dealing with others. However, some are so wealthy and powerful that they simply do not care who their bodyguards hurt, or they like the unstable nature of the Valkyrie.
